The law of sex exchange operations in Iran contradicts heavily to Islam’s strict rules against homosexuality and transgender people but the law was disregarded when Iran fielded eight men to play as women in the Iranian national team. Infact, Iran had been fielding men as women as in 2014 where four women national team players were found to be men. Also, in 2010, the gender of their keeper was questionable.
They were later caught again in 2015 but not directly by FIFA but by one of the Iranian football officials who was close to the Iranian league whose name was Mojtabi Shariffi let the cat out of the bag. She revealed that Iranian’s women national team have been fielding eight men among three females to compete in world’s tournament.
Investigations had it that, everything happened due to the fact that gender change operations are legal in Iran as the men who were fielded were either said to be suffering from sexual development disorders or had not completed gender change operations.
Another reason why they are not detected while playing on the pitch is because, the Iranian women’s football teams play on Hijabs, tracksuits bottoms and long sleeve shirts that covers the hand down to the wrist.
